The max value from conf/{all,interface}/rp_filter is used when doing source validation on the {interface}. Default value is 0. Note that some distributions enable it in startup scripts. Nb: per interface setting (where “interface” is the name of your network interface); “all” is a special interface: changes the settings for all interfaces. As a consequence of this correction, Oracle RAC systems that use multiple NICs for the private interconnect now require specific settings for the rp_filter parameter. This requirement also applies Configure two network cards in a different subnet on RHEL rp_filter. Since RHEL 6 (and CentOS 6), asymmetric routing doesn’t work anymore out of the box. The cause of the issue is a change in the default value for kernel parameter rp_filter. Rp_filter stands for reverse path filtering.
